The first batch of 6,248 kilograms of household appliances from Egypt has arrived at Guangzhou Nansha Port. This global trade event, known as “China’s No. 1 Exhibition,” is about to open in Guangzhou with great fanfare.
The 138th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) will be held in Guangzhou in three phases from October 15th to November 4th. As China’s oldest and largest comprehensive international trade event, the Canton Fair has become a window, epitome, and symbol of China’s opening up to the outside world.
01 Exhibition Overview: Grand Scale, Numerous Highlights
This year’s Canton Fair will feature a total exhibition area of approximately 1.55 million square meters, with 55 exhibition areas and an expected participation of over 30,000 companies.
Exhibits will cover a wide range of categories, including industrial automation and intelligent manufacturing, new energy vehicles, hardware and building materials, home appliances and home furnishings, and light industrial gifts.
The Import Exhibition will cover approximately 30,000 square meters and is expected to attract companies from 50 countries and regions. Since its 101st edition, the Canton Fair has included an Import Exhibition and has attracted over 18,000 exhibitors from over 110 countries and regions.
02 Three Phases: Comprehensive Coverage, Each with Its Own Distinction
The first phase of the Canton Fair (October 15-19) will showcase consumer electronics and information products, home appliances, auto parts, lighting products, electronic and electrical products, hardware, tools, and more.
The second phase (October 23-27) will focus on consumer goods such as daily ceramics, household goods, kitchenware, home decorations, holiday items, gifts and premiums, glassware, and art ceramics.
The third phase (October 31-November 4) will showcase home textiles, carpets and tapestries, men’s and women’s clothing, underwear, sportswear and casual wear, shoes, luggage, and food.
03 Business Benefits: Unprecedented Strength, Comprehensive Burden Reduction
This year’s Canton Fair introduced measures to benefit businesses that have been hailed as “timely relief.” All exhibitors at the export fair will enjoy booth fee reductions, with over 5,000 companies benefiting for the first time.
In addition to the 50% booth fee reduction currently available at the offline fair, the online platform has also implemented additional reductions. These measures aim to “support the development of foreign trade enterprises and better respond to external risks and challenges.”
In addition to booth fee reductions, the customs also provided preferential measures for this Canton Fair, including on-site supervision and exemption from tax payment guarantees, allowing enterprises to fully benefit from these policies.
04 Global Promotion: Far-reaching Impact, Enthusiastic Response
To expand the global influence of the Canton Fair, organizers have held promotional events in several countries. On September 3rd, a Canton Fair promotion event was held in the UK, attended by representatives from the Chinese Embassy in the UK, the China-Britain Business Council, the UK 48 Group, and other organizations.
Jonathan, Director General of the UK 48 Group, Mitchell noted, “China’s Canton Fair is a grand event with a long history. It serves not only as a platform for commodity trading, but also as a platform for cooperation and exchange.”
On September 1st, a Canton Fair promotion meeting was held in Lisbon, Portugal, attended by nearly 100 Chinese and Portuguese political, business, and media representatives. Fernando Machado, General Manager of the Portuguese Battery Cluster Association, spoke at the meeting about the development of the lithium battery industry in Portugal and its close connection with the Chinese market.
05 A Heritage of History: A Trade Bridge, Significant Results
Founded in 1957, the Canton Fair is held annually in Guangzhou in spring and autumn. It is China’s longest-running, largest, most comprehensive international trade event, boasting the widest variety of goods, the largest number of participating buyers, and the widest cross-regional distribution.
Since its inception, the Canton Fair has weathered storms and remained uninterrupted, successfully holding 137 editions. It has established trade relations with 229 countries and regions worldwide, generated approximately US$1.5 trillion in cumulative export transactions, and attracted over 12 million overseas buyers, both in person and online.
The 137th Canton Fair, held in April 2025, attracted nearly 290,000 overseas buyers from 219 countries and regions, a year-on-year increase of 17.3% compared to the 135th Canton Fair.
06 International Participation: Win-Win Cooperation, Unlimited Opportunities
British companies are key participants in the Canton Fair, with over 30,000 exhibitors in the past five years. In 2024, 48 British groups and the West London Chamber of Commerce participated in the fair, with leading companies such as Tesco and Kingfisher UK participating, bringing the total number of buyers to 6,050.
